Ashleigh’s message…
Ponies helped me so much when I was little - from the beginning, I rode the difficult ones, the ones who needed a rider who would sit still and understand them, so maybe we helped each other… Over the years of working with horses professionally, I, as so many do, became jaded and forgot that I actually liked them - they became a job… A special Thoroughbred called Cody and a dog called Fox were my first reminder (now that is a campfire story)… And, and, and… I have lived the disillusionment, the burnout, and have finally remembered that we, the horses and I, help each other… This week is about reconnecting to the little girl (or boy) in you who loved ponies… It’s about slowing down learning some new skills for you and your horse, and having good laughs with good people…

Day Onemeet up in cusco and enter the sacred valley
Day one – 26/03/2027. We begin in the morning, meeting in Cuzco. This town served as the capital of the Inca Empire (Tawantinsuyu) from its foundation around the 13th century until the Spanish conquest in 1533–1534. At its peak in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the empire was the largest in the Americas, spanning over 1,100 miles (1,800 km) and encompassing roughly 12 million people across modern-day Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile.
The Incan settlements EXACTLY match the Milky Way – each major town and village is a central point for the stars, showing their ancient wisdom.
This is a fascinating town with great food and culture. I suggest people arriving a day or two early to have the chance of recovering from jet lag and beginning to acclimatise to the altitude (3,399m) especially if you are coming in from sea level. (This time in Cuzco is excluded from your workshop week). It’s a useful stop to buy some cacao leaves, to help with the altitude.
On day one, 26/03, we will head out of town early morning, on a private tour. If people are flying in on the 26th, please land on the first possible flight, ideally before 7am. And straight onto the first bus!
This tour will include travel to
· Chinchero, a small town known for its long tradition of textile weaving. Here, you'll see various textiles woven using traditional Incan techniques, visit the first archaeological site, and explore a beautiful old church located near the center.
· Next, you'll visit Moray to see the agricultural terraces built along the hillsides. These terraces were constructed by the Incas to grow a variety of crops on the mountain terrain, and show their advanced understanding of engineering and agriculture.
· Nearby, at Maras, there are over 5,000 salt ponds used by the Incas for salt extraction, which helped preserve their foods for long periods. This natural spring is still in use today. There are three standards of salt extracted at Maras – the pure white table salt. The pink salt, similar to Himalayan Salt, but very much more powerful. There are over 80 essential minerals in this ancient salt, which is filtered through layers of volcanic rock. The third standard of salt is used for therapeutic bath and topical medical reasons. It is very much a place of healing and connection.
· Our final stop along the route into the Sacred Valley is to meet some very famous inhabitants and see how the tradition of shearing, cleaning, dying, weaving and knitting is still very much alive…
Tickets into all of these sites, along with a small souvenir from our Llama friends is included in your trip. If you wish to purchase a Llama jersey (Ashleigh did on her trip!) bringing cash USD will get you a better rate.
After learning about Incan agricultural techniques, we head to Urubamba, the capital of the Sacred Valley, for a buffet lunch.
Finally we head to Ollantaytambo, a smaller village for our first two nights.
Once settled in our hotel we will begin our workshops for the week with an introduction with both Loesje and Ashleigh, followed by exploring the town for dinner.

the sun temple
We begin the morning by climbing over 200 steps to watch the sunrise over the Incan Sun Temple, before descending to the hotel for breakfast, regrouping and starting our workshops with Loesje.
We will break for lunch in the town. After some downtime, we begin the afternoon session with Ashleigh.
Before heading back into town for dinner, and an early night, thinking about tomorrow’s move.

Moving day – we head back to Maras, to our luxury home for the next three nights. Here, we are staying at a hotel known as an “Astrotourism Hotel”. This is where we are offered world-class stargazing, our hotel having earned the first "Starlight" certification in Peru. Located near Cusco at 12,000 feet with near-zero light pollution, it provides exceptional views of the Milky Way, Andean constellations, and Inka astronomical. We learn more about how the Incans used their learning and integrated it into the technology. There will be yoga classes for anyone wishing to join, as well as each cabin having a private hot tub (for using your Maras bath salts) and Lamas who will come along to visit as you soak. There will be 2 beds in each cabin.

The program will be the same for the next 2 days – a session with Loesje and a second session with Ashleigh each day. There is a beautiful herd of horses on site (right outside your front door) and we will be interacting with these horses. Most of the work will be from the ground, however if guests are keen to ride (and under the weight limit) a riding tour can be arranged.

Back in the car, head to Ollantaytambo. We have already visited this beautiful little town, to climb the 200 steps to the sun temple. This time, we are just passing through catch the train up to Aguas Calientes (meaning hot springs) otherwise known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. This little town is the base for trips up to Machu Picchu ruins itself. It is accessible by trekking or trains, the only vehicles that are allowed are the buses that shuttle tourists and guides up the mountain. The train ride takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes and is one of the most stunning rides in the world. We pass through two terrains as we travel along the Urubamba River: the high-altitude, arid Andean foothills/mountain valley and the lush, dense cloud forest. The scenery transitions from the dry, open Sacred Valley to a steep, green canyon.
On arriving in Aguas Calientes, we check into our hotel and then meet our next guide, Carlos…..

The most Magical of all the days! Machu Picchu…
We wake very early, and catch the first bus up the mountain, we will show our tickets and pass in Machu Picchu itself. Carlos will be with us all the way, explain the history, and letting us soak in the atmosphere.
At the end of an exhilarating day, we descend the mountains in our bus, find dinner and have a good night sleep, dreaming of all that we have experienced.

Breakfast in Aguas Calientes, chat over any questions and share experiences, and then some may head their separate ways.
You will have been given a return ticket back to Ollantaytambo. Most guests will be on the morning train back down the mountain, and there you have choices. Officially the trip has ended, and there will be a mini bus ready to take you back to Cuzco, and from there you can get to the airport and return home, or travel further in South America. However, I highly recommend spending another night or two in Ollantaytambo, to let yourself remain in that magical little bubble for a day or two. Alternatively, you could stay in Aguas Calientes for another day, traveling to Ollantaytambo on the 3rd before heading back to Cuzco. Your travel costs are covered to get you to Cuzco, we just need to know what you are thinking by February 2027, so that the travel can be booked.
